The Academia Sánchez-Casal has a team of highly regarded fitness professionals, with experiences across the world of tennis, and sport. In addition, all of our fitness coaches enroll in an ongoing Professional Development Pathway that gives each coach the experience and knowledge to develop as an individual coach and as part of our coaching team.

Our Fitness Coaching Department places emphasis on the development of the sportsperson, the athlete, rather than solely on the development of the tennis player. This approach encompasses not just the physical conditioning of a student, but their nutrition, general health, mental routines and more; it is a holistic approach to student development. To achieve this, the Academia Sánchez-Casal uses the latest methodologies and training techniques and technologies to maximize training gains.

At Academia Sánchez-Casal, our integrated approach, where all of the Fitness Coaching team works closely with our Tennis team, allows us to achieve the best possible results from our student-athletes. This follows them through all periods of a training cycle, preparation at the Academy, international competition and recovery and rest periods at home. In particular we are proud of our commitment to the prevention of injury and ensuring our student-athletes are healthy and injury free.

It is necessary that all student-athletes arrange their own comprehensive medical insurance. The Academia Sánchez-Casal can suggest suitable companies offering such services.
Our Restaurant staff works closely with our nutritionists on the selection of produce and composition of menus. Firstly we ensure a balanced diet for all of our guests, using the finest fresh ingredients available. The Academia Sánchez-Casal prides itself on offering a wide variety of healthy dishes and an exciting range of menus.

As part of our integrated approach, our nutrition staff is kept informed of our training schedule. This allows them to cater for the demands of our student-athletes at different phases of training, such as competition, increased strength training or rehabilitation.

In addition, our Sports Nutrition staff works closely with our Medical Care team to meet any special dietary requirements for our student-athletes. All of our student-athletes receive guidance in selecting the correct foods and following a balanced, athletic diet. During international competition, our team provides athletes and coaches with guidelines for eating correctly on the road.
Our Mental Skills Training is an integrated part of our training system and follows a periodization method that complements our on-court training. This method revolves around a strength-based approach, in which the athlete’s strengths are used to build upon other skills that demonstrate an opportunity for improvement.

We believe that Mental Skills Training is a necessity for all student-athletes, and do not take the view that sports psychology is only for those who have a weakness. That is why our training takes a pro-active, preventative and strengthening approach, rather than a curative response.

Our mental skills training is aimed not only at improving a player’s mental toughness from an individual sport standpoint, but also include skills that will help players succeed in a team-based setting and in life. Players meet individually with the sport psychology coach on a regular basis to maximize skill acquisition. The mental training include structured goal setting, leadership development, competition consistency, development of routines and rituals, recovering from mental lapses, performing under pressure, maintaining motivation, controlling intensity, and video analysis of performance.
