Combining High Performance Tennis with Academic Studies this program permits students to train and study in both the Florida (USA) campus and the Barcelona (Europe) campus within the same school year, preparing student-athletes not only for the professional tennis circuit, but also for college tennis at American universities.
“A few years ago, it was the 25th anniversary of my win in the final of the Indian Wells tournament against Boris Becker, and I remember being so close to Los Angeles, that I visited my sister Marisa, who was studying in Pepperdine University. That was where the idea of uniting high performance tennis training and academic studies through the American education system took shape. Today, this idea commences a new era, with the launch of our intercontinental program”, says Emilio Sanchez-Vicario.
From his own experience, Emilio knew how difficult it was to combine tennis training with studies, travelling continuously and competing in different tournaments. It is extremely challenging to be a tennis player and overcome the various stages that must be mastered to become a professional.
Ali Collins finds herself in the first stage of this process: a promising young ASC talent from Scotland who is following in Andy Murray’s footsteps. She is under the guidance of Judy Murray, who visited the Florida campus of Sanchez-Casal several weeks ago and spent the day with Emilio.
“Just like Andy did at the same age, Ali trained with me, and when she was 15 years old, I realized that she needed a more competitive environment. Andy’s experience in ASC was so positive that we recommended it to Ali’s parents also. They visited the ASC Florida campus, and then decided to come”, confirms Judy.
The Intercontinental Program combines Europe and the USA
This program is the ultimate partnership: tennis and school; Europe and the USA; it permits students to live, train and study in two cultures, gaining double the experience through the Academic Sanchez-Casal and ES International School in both Barcelona and Florida.
With this program, a player can study, train and compete in both Europe and the USA in the same season, something that Emilio Sánchez-Vicario considers critical: “Training and schooling are important aspects of the growth of a student-athlete in our competitive world. By combining tennis and academic studies, our athletes face a future with greater assurances of success”.
